The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched the "Young Scientist Programme" for school children. The program is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to students with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of space activities.

The duration of the programme will be for two weeks during summer vacation (second half of May 2019). The schedule will include invited talks, sharing of experiences by the eminent scientists, facility and lab visits, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.

According to details available on the official ISRO website, the organisation plans to select three students each from each state/union territory to participate in the programme, which will include curriculums of the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), India School Certificate Examinations (ICSE), and state boards.

Students will be selected through online registration. Students who have completed their 9th class and are going to 10th class are eligible to apply for the programme.

Weightage will be given to performance in 8th class examination, science/space club membership, prizes won at national/state/district or international levels in school-based individual extracurricular activities and sports, NCC/Scouts & Guides/NSS members, and students studying in village/rural schools.

Students can register online with the link available on the ISRO website. The last date for applying for the course is April 3, 2019. ISRO will bear all the expenses, which includes second class AC train travel, course material, lodging and boarding. Also, one guardian/parent will be provided with second class AC train fare to pick and drop students from the reporting centres.
